J: I think the best time on Frenchmen Street was from six months to a year-and-a-half after Katrina, when all the musicians were coming back into town. They would just put together groups right on the spot. The music was fabulous. Do you know Va Va Voom? That was one of those bands. They were really good. They had Neti [Vaan] on the violin, Raphael [Bas] and Pierre [Pichon] on guitar … Who’s the one that plays the saxophone? The soprano sax? She plays all over town. Nealand. Aurora Nealand. Bart [Ramsey] on the piano. Fabulous group.
