Nita Ketner on lush hazy nights

NK: I’ve never been to Havana, but I always imagine that it would look the way [Frenchmen] looked in the ‘90s. It was just very romantic, decadent…  It would be at home in Havana. Or it would be at home in Rio. I mean, Ade is from Brazil, you know, so I think he really brought a slice of the rainforest and a slice of urban Latino life into Frenchmen Street. Because there’s no doubt that Cafe Brasil was the anchor.

…You could go down to Frenchmen and run into people, you could dance, you could do a little coke, smoke a little weed, get drunk, meet somebody. Everything you possibly want, with all the coolest people you ever met in your life. I just recall being down there and some nights it was just a beyond-beautiful haze. Like, you remember the vibes more than you remember the details type situation.
