(RIP)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A decent\/ok night&#8217;s pay hasn&#8217;t changed much over the decades ($100 bucks a gig is generally considered worth putting pants on for) <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/antigravitymagazine.com\/column\/making-a-living-as-a-new-orleans-musician-then-and-now-by-the-numbers\/\" target=\"_blank\">but rent has &#8230; quadrupled?<\/a> AT LEAST?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When asked &#8220;When was Frenchmen the best?&#8221; two distinct time periods are generally mentioned: 1) The late &#8217;80s thru &#8217;90s (give or take) when Frenchmen was an under-the-radar hang, and 2) The early &#8217;00s til 2012 or 2014ish, once it had taken off as a scene where many musicians could make their entire living. The &#8220;beautiful thing,&#8221; in the words of longtime Snug Harbor music director Jason Patterson, about this latter phase was that it remained predominantly local rather than tourist-driven for a long time.
